Tuition Assistance Plan (TAP)

The UAW-Chrysler Tuition Assistance Plan (TAP) is available to active UAW-represented Chrysler Group LLC seniority employees.

Please review the TAP Overview document, as it has been revised to reflect changes to TAP guidelines.

TAP provides eligible workers with financial assistance to take job-related, degree-seeking courses at nationally and regionally accredited educational institutions. In addition, effective Jan. 1, 2014, workers may take approved Labor Study courses.

Educational institutions must be preapproved by the TAP committee to be eligible. Payments for tuition and appropriate fees will be made directly to the educational institution, or if the institution does not accept vouchers, will be made to the employee as a reimbursement for eligible out-of-pocket expenditures.

Effective Jan. 1, 2014, employees will be responsible for all tuition and fees for course(s) dropped after the institution's add/drop period. Situations that occur beyond the employee’s control will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Members may appeal a decision to the TAP Committee.

To be eligible for tuition assistance, a worker must be a UAW-represented Chrysler employee with seniority on the active rolls or on temporary layoff. Employees on sick leave are not eligible for TAP.

Employees may receive up to $5,000 per year. In no event shall the total assistance to an employee exceed $5,000 per calendar year. Each course will be reviewed by TAP administrators to determine whether it is eligible. Employees have the right to appeal denied degree or course requests.

The Scholarship Program for Dependent Children and Retiree Tuition Assistance remains suspended.

For questions about TAP, please contact Pat Byers, UAW, or Colleen McBrady, Chrysler Group LLC, at the TAP office, 586-427-6757 (fax: 586-427-6747), or email TAP@ucntc.org. Please include your name, CID and UAW Local number when sending email.

NTC and the Joint Activities Board have sole discretion to establish particular training or other programs consistent with the terms of the National Agreement, including the right to cease to offer, or refrain from offering, particular programs.

The parties further agree that the provisions of M-9 do not create any obligation on the part of the Company, the Union, or the NTC to provide any particular form of training, program or initiative covered under the MOU and that the Joint Activities Board has sole discretion to establish, or refrain from establishing, any particular form of training or other initiative, for any reason (including lack of funds).
